Today is Holy Friday in the Eastern Orthodox Church, the day Jesus dies on the cross. So I guess it’s only natural I’m cranky. I took a week off work to rest and attend as many Holy Week services as possible to prepare for my family’s reception into the Church on Holy Saturday.
That’s not going to happen. At least, not now. Both of my little ones have coughs and fevers. But many of our friends will be received Saturday, so I’m going to swallow my bitter disappointment and go cheer them on. In all humility, I must accept that the Lord has decided this is not the time. And maybe I need that correction.
But right now, I have little patience for nonsense, like these campus protests that have sprung up across the country. Presumably they’re protesting Israel’s treatment of Palestine, but it seems like whenever I see an interview with one of these protestors, they don’t know what they’re protesting. It seems like it’s mostly an excuse to skip class and party, which is what most of these things amount to.
