I’ve paused paid subscriptions for Unprepared until May 7th. That means no one can sign up for a paid subscription, and if you already have a paid subscription, it effectively goes into suspended animation. If you recently renewed for a full year (thank you), you will still get a full year of content—the renew date will just be pushed out a few years next year. If you pay by the month, your billing should be paused for the next month or so.
I did this because I don’t think I’m currently in shape to give you great value for your money. I’ve been cranking out content multiple times per week for over a year—content that forces me to keep my head in pretty dark places much of the day.
Over the past few months, my family has dealt with constant illness: seven consecutive strep infections and recently a bout of pinkeye along with some other unidentified illness.
Recent events have also taken a heavy mental and spiritual toll on me. Several children—much like my own—were recently gunned down in my backyard. We know some of the parents involved. And the response from the administration—in my opinion—has been to provoke even more violence. Normally, I can give a balanced political take, but at the moment I cannot.
So I’m going to take a little time off to focus on my family, my farm, and my day job. I’ve deleted Twitter from my phone. Hopefully, this will help me get back to full mental and physical health and to a place where I can provide informative and useful content.
In the interim, I highly recommend checking out our Unprepared Discord, which is probably the single best thing to come out of this venture. We have an amazing community of folks who stay on top of the latest news, and I couldn’t be running this publication without them.
Good for you, getting away from the insanity for a while. Family is infinitely more important than blogging.
Jake care of yourself and your family Josh. As you always do. Whatever you need. We'll still be here.
