If you live in Europe, I have terrible news: you’re screwed. Russia has cut you off and barring a miracle or the UK and EU bending the knee to Putin—either seemingly unlikely—you are looking at a cold, dark winter with extremely high energy bills.
Things are already so bad in Britain that gameshows offer energy bill payments as prizes. It’s like a scene from V for Vendetta.
Honestly, your best bet is to leave, if that’s an option. Otherwise, I hope you’re allowed to stack firewood.
If you live outside of Europe, your winter is much more optimistic. I expect more inflation, higher energy prices, and more power grid wackiness, but otherwise, life should carry on as normal.
But even in the best of winters, cold weather, power outages, and ice conditions are a given. You always want to prepare one season ahead. So in the fall you should be preparing for winter, prepare for spring in the winter, prepare for summer in spring, and prepare for fall in summer. Don’t hold off on winter preps, because by the time you need them, they may not be on the shelf, or the prices may be astronomical.
